About Cornerstone Gallery Cornerstone
Galley and Studio is located in historic Blue Island, Illinois, one of
the oldest suburbs south of Chicago. Built in 1887, the building’s
history began when August and Whilhemina Schreiber, German immigrants
since 1851, established a
tin shop in the building.
Business thrived into a full service hardware store lasting
nearly 75 years until its closure in the
late 1960’s. Since then there have been many businesses in the
large 3-story structure but none as innovative as Cornerstone Gallery. Cornerstone
Gallery and Studio is unique in many ways. Cornerstone is owned and
operated by an artist whose vision has always been first and foremost,
“It’s about the art.” Paulette Stobinske is an artist whose work
is as versatile as it is creative and whose creativity and generosity
extends to all artists. That is why the mission of Cornerstone is so
important to all the artists who become associated with the gallery. It
is more than just a gallery. It is a space where artists can come to
together not only to show their work but also to share ideas and
friendship. Artists who share the Cornerstone vision continue to show
with the gallery year after year.
The
mission of the Cornerstone Gallery is to develop a cultural community in
Blue Island and the surrounding communities. Visual artists are invited
to show in group shows six times a year and performing artists are also
encouraged to showcase their talents.
Musicians, poets, and drumming circles are just a few of the
local talents that have appeared in the gallery space. Artists are
afforded an exceptional opportunity to mingle with the guests in a very
informal atmosphere. Cornerstone Gallery’s vision is to
“demystify” art and
to afford the general public and local visitors an enjoyable and
unintimidating experience.
Everyone associated with the gallery and studio is approachable
because the gallery’s mission is make the space about art, about the
people who make it and the people who appreciate it; about our
commonalities; and about our
desire to
share our vision with others.
