Ruth,
a resident artist here at Cornerstone, has been creating art for most of
her life. Her love and interest of art culminated in a master's degree from the University of Chicago in art history.
She became intrigued with Oriental painting and began taking lessons in brush painting, or sumi-e. After studying brush painting for three years,
Ruth began teaching classes in sumi-e and watercolor.
" My work is inspired by the natural world. I enjoy working in various media, techniques, and subject matter. I may decide to do a mountain landscape and then afterwards decide on the media - watercolor, pen and ink, pastel, or oil.
'
Recently, Marcanti has branched out in several new directions. She now
is creating handmade art paper, artist books and collages inspired by
her travels and love of the American southwest and Hawaii, her current art work focuses on these themes.
